New Help For Families Suffering Domestic Violence
9:51am 18th December 2012
A new project to support families across Dorset who've been experiencing domestic violence has been awarded nearly £300,000 of lottery funding.
The Pacific Waves scheme will be run by the Church of England's Children's Society in West Dorset, Weymouth and Portland.
The service will offer a safe place where families can get therapy, counselling and mediation.
Youngsters will be supported to help rebuild relationships through planned activities like arts and crafts.
The group will also work closely with Dorchester Refuge, providing an outreach service as well as a specialised service for mother and child including 24 hour support.
Mark Cotton, Big Lottery Fund Head of Region South West said, "This Christmas is also a time to reflect on those in our own communities who may be a carer to a loved one or families who are struggling for many reasons. I hope that today's Lottery funding will begin to make a difference to many who would otherwise find it hard to get support when they most need it."
