1500 Will Be Jobless In Dorset This Christmas

10:24am 20th December 2012
(Updated 10:25am 20th December 2012)

More than 1500 people in Dorset are going to be spending their second successive Christmas on the dole, according to the latest TUC research published today (Thursday 20th December).

The figures show the number of people on Jobseekers' Allowance for more than 12 months is on the rise across the County.

520 people in South Dorset have been out of work for over a year. That figure is worse for neighbouring town Bournemouth though at 750.

TUC South West say the figures are "a huge concern" and are calling on the government to make tackling long-term unemployment a priority.
