Dorset County Hospital is one of the most clinically efficient in the county.
The 'Hospital Guide 2012' which has been produced by health analytics firm Dr Foster, assessed the efficiency of England's hospitals for the first time.
Results showed that Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of six trusts highlighted as the most efficient against indicators such as readmission rates, cancelled operations, follow-up rates and use of day surgery.
Trust Chief Executive Jean O'Callaghan is very pleased with the results "Hospital staff can be very proud of this result. Everyone has been working hard to become more efficient while making improvements to patient care.
"We know we have more work to do to make ongoing savings and keep the Trust on a firm financial footing, but this shows that we are moving in the right direction."
