Future Uncertain for Burnt Out Lychett School Building

Lytchett Minster School fire 27.12.12 010

10:56am 28th December 2012

For the second time in recent memory Staff at a School in-between Bere Regis and Poole has been left devastated by a fire.

A lightning strike is thought to have caused a huge blaze at Lychett Minster upper School yesterday (27th December).

The Dorset School was targeted by an arsonist in 2000 during the holidays and the science, maths, and humanities blocks plus the theatre was destroyed.

A new Arts Block and Theatre was made in 2009.Both were destroyed in yesterday’s fire.

The Station Manager at Dorset Fire and Rescue has said the burnt-out block is no longer safe to use.

A decision now has to be made whether to rebuild or knock it down.
