County Council To Fall Short Of Savings Target

8:25am 10th January 2013
(Updated 8:26am 10th January 2013)

Dorset County Council is going to fall short of its savings target for the coming year, according to a new report.

Cabinet will meet next week to discuss balancing the books.

The report looks into the progress of the Meeting Future Challenges Programme, who aim to deliver savings of £39M over three years.

But, forecasters predict the County Council will fail £1.6M short of their £15M target for the year.

4 Challenge Groups - made up of council members, officers and external reps - were set up last May to examine the issues that lead to the shortfall.

They'll also be responsible for developing proposals to make new savings of nearly £26M over 2 years from 2014.

Cabinet will meet to discuss the report next Wednesday (16th January).
