Weymouth Orchard Attacked By Vandals

7:36am 11th January 2013

Vandals have destroyed an orchard that was set up and dedicated to a terminally ill man in Weymouth.

Members of a Friends Group who look after the trees in Radipole Park discovered the damage on Monday (7th January).

Branches have been broken and markings scratched into the bark, leading to fears someone is trying to kill the trees off completely.

The orchard has been funded by an ill man - who doesn't want to be named - and it's dedicated in his name.

Local Councillor and member of the friends group Bill White told Wessex FM whoevers responsible should be ashamed; "It's very upsetting someone would do this, it's not just an act of vandalism, someone has decided they don't want to see the orchard prosper. There's no logical reason behind it."

The Friends Group is asking members of the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity they see near the trees.
