Plans To Start Dorchester Branch of Cancer Charity
9:26am 12th January 2013
Fundraisers in Dorchester are being asked to pop in for a coffee and a chat today (Saturday 12th) about starting a new group to raise money to fight cancer.
Ros Fry wants to start a Cancer Research UK group in the County town with the aim of raising £10,000 this year.
An initial informal meeting is taking place today and anyone interested can pop in to Bryterlater Coffee Bar in South Street between 10am and 1pm, get a free coffee and find out how they can help.
Dorset Volunteer Manager for the charity, Ros Fry, says,
"We have successful fundraising groups in Bridport, Marnhull, Wool , Lyme Regis and other areas in Dorset, but not at the moment in Dorchester. I am looking to set up a fundraising group for Cancer Research UK in Dorchester, and wondered whether this is something you'd be interested in getting involved with. The area has a lot of fundraising activity already and I believe there's even more potential, so it would be fantastic to bring a group together to make a difference within the community.
"Examples of activities that other groups organise include cash collections, tennis tournaments, golf days, dog walks, fun runs, discos, raffles, auctions, pub quizzes, winter balls, tea parties and sales at local events….but the exciting thing about starting a new group is that you get to decide how you fundraise based on what interests you," said Ros.
