Iconic Rampisham Masts Pulled Down
1:40pm 16th January 2013
Motorists using the A35 past Maiden Newton will notice something distinctly different soon, a little bit of history is coming to an end.
For 70 years they've towered over the West Dorset landscape, but soon they'll disappear forever.
The Rampisham Masts are one by one, being taken down.
It's expected to take about a year to get all the 100 metre structures to the ground.
The masts were mainly used to broadcast the BBC's World Service, but they're scaling back their shortwave operation, and the masts are no longer needed.
It's understood a solar panel farm could replace the old mast site.
