High Number Of Dishwasher Fires In Dorset

Dorset Fire And Rescue Engine

3:54pm 17th January 2013
(Updated 4:24pm 17th January 2013)

Dorset Fire and Rescue say they're being called out to a high number of dishwasher fires in peoples homes.

They attended an incident just last night on Portland.

Watch Manager Bob Terrey from Portland Fire Station, who attended this incident said: "Fire service home safety staff visited the property about one month ago and provided free fire safety advice during a home safety check. This advice served the occupier well as they closed all internal doors before exiting the property. This meant smoke and fire damage was kept to an absolute minimum.

Bob continued: "We believe the cause of this fire to have been a dishwasher. We are currently experiencing a high number of fires in dishwashers with BOSCH, NEFF and Seimens all having released a recall notice on their dishwashers as they all use the same control panel; however we also believe Hotpoint dishwashers are affected. This particular fire is still under investigation."
