Time For Dorset VAT Fraudster

A luxury watch dealer from Dorset's been jailed after defrauding HM Revenue and Customs of £ 271,000.

49 year old Mark Nicholas Gibson of Shapwick, near Blandford was sentenced today by Bournemouth Crown Court to 2 years 9 months in prison.

Gibson, who had been found guilty by a jury last month, falsified invoices to reclaim VAT, in many cases on watches he hadn't actually bought. The HMRC began their investigation after Gibson's name was linked to a similar VAT fraud uncovered in London.

Sentencing, His Honour Judge Johnson told the court  it was a sophisticated , professionally planned fraud, executed over a period of time.
