Weymouth Pavilion to Stay Open Until May, Reprieve for Ticket Holders
5:21pm 22nd January 2013
Weymouth Pavilion is going to stay open until the end of May!
The Borough Council has reassured the organisers of the WOW musical theatre group that their 2 shows "Miss Saigon" and "That'll Be The Day" will go ahead.
The last showing is May 25th.
Borough Councillors will decide the future of the Pavilion Complex next month (February) as part of the budget review.
Weymouth & Portland Borough Council Tourism and Culture Briefholder Ian Bruce said:
“I am delighted that the council is now planning to allow events already booked at the pavilion until the end of May to take place.
“Whatever the decision of councillors considering the budget in February, it is important that our customers, plus those organising and taking part in these shows, had this reassurance.”
The borough council has recently consulted businesses and residents on proposals to reduce non-essential services. It needs to be spending at least £3.9 million a year less by 2019/20.
Cllr Bruce added: “The future of the pavilion financing is a vital issue to be resolved, but allowing bookings up to at least the end of May both ensures these events and things like the Mayor Making and counting of votes for the county council elections can take place without any additional costs to the local tax payers.”
Councillors will next debate the 2013/14 budget at Management Committee on 5 February. They will set the budget at Full Council on 21 February.
