Travellers Have Until Monday to Leave Dorchester Market Car Park

Travellers Dorchester

(Updated 5:27pm 25th January 2013)

A group of travellers who've pitched up opposite the Police Station in Dorchester have said they'll be gone tomorrow (Saturday 26th January).

Around half a dozen caravans appeared at Fairfield Car Park overnight.

The Police say if they're not gone by Monday they have advised West Dorset District Council to begin legal action to get them evicted.

Wessex FM understands up to a thousand travellers will be in Blandford tonight (Friday 25th January) for a funeral and wake. It’s not known whether the group at Fairfields Market car park are included in travelling party though.

Leader of West Dorset District Council, Robert Gould said: "We are aware that a number of travellers are currently located at Fairfield car park. "We are working with Dorset Police and the county council's Gypsy Traveller Liaison Officer to resolve the issue."
