Options to Save Weymouth Pavilion Revealed and Dorset Show Launched
9:23am 31st January 2013
Councillor Ian Bruce has been speaking about the future of Weymouth Pavilion at the launch of the Best Of Dorset Show.
The event in the Ocean Room in March is for local attractions, businesses and organisations to promote themselves.
Councillor Bruce who's in charge of Tourism and Culture says there's no more council tax money to pay for the Pavilion.
But he's says exhibitors at the show should keep the venue in mind.
He's also asking West Dorset District Council to consider using the venue.
Meanwhile - the five options for the future of Weymouth Pavilion have been revealed.
The management committee will meet on Tuesday to look at the options on the table - and they are..
To close the Pavilion and demolish it - in order to redevelop the site.
To lease the building for community use.
To close it and lease it to secure its best market value.
To close it and put it up for freehold sale.
Or to find the budget from elsewhere to keep it running.
We'll find out what they decide on Tuesday.
The Best Of Dorset Show is being held on Sunday 24 March at Weymouth Pavilion from 11am to 4pm.
The event is organised by the Weymouth and Portland Borough Council's Events Team who predict a strong demand from exhibitors to the 2013 show.
