The Fate Of Weymouth Pavilion Is Now Up To You
8:04am 6th February 2013
It's now up to local communities in Weymouth to find a way of keeping the Pavilion alive.
The Borough Council has agreed to hear takeover proposals from people and groups in the community.
Yesterday (5th February) a management Committee voted to put the Pavillion up for tender, after it shuts at the end of May (2013).
There's a lot of support for plans put forward by local man Phil Say and the Save the Pavilion Campaign Group, who want to keep it open and attract more big name shows and comedy performances in the future.
Phil told Wessex FM they've been given a golden chance to save the seafront theatre; "The next step is to start negotiations and work out what criterai we need to work to. Then the real task begins, to create a venue that the borough and th people can be proud of".
Full recommendations for the Pavilion will be heard at a council meeting in 2 weeks time.
