12:46pm 6th February 2013
Tom Brown's in Dorchester has been named West Dorset Town Pub of the year.
The prize comes from the Campaign for Real Ale.
The pub on High East Street belongs to the Dorset Brewing Company and serves 7 real ales.
Manager Jo-ann von Weichardt hails from South Africa and has been in charge for nearly two years. "Our regulars are delighted we have won the award," says Jo-ann.
She serves seven real ales at present, five made by the Dorset Brewing Co. in Crossways, including Tom Browns Ale and Flashmans Clout from the original Goldfinch recipes.
There is also Durdle Door, Jurassic and Yachtsman from DBC, plus a constant rotation of guest ales on the two remaining handpumps.
Judges were impressed by the quality improvement at Tom Browns," says CAMRA spokesman Michel Hooper-Immins "and by the variety of beers brewed only a few miles away, including the revival of the much loved Goldfinch range." Tom Browns was West Dorset Pub of the Year in 1994 and 2002.
