Weymouth Beach has come 7th in the UK in the Travellers Choice Beach Awards for 2013.
Website Tripadvisor have based the rating on feedback from travellers.
Two other Dorset beaches made it into the top ten.
Hengistbury Head in Bournemouth came 5th and Sandbanks in Poole was pushed down into 8th place by Weymouth.
"These awards recognise the best beaches in the UK and beyond, according to those that really matter - travellers that have visited these beaches and given them the highest levels of praise," commented Emma Shaw, TripAdvisor spokesperson. "It's great to see Dorset coming up trumps against beaches in Portugal, Spain and Italy."
Triple win for Dorset
Dorset's Jurassic Coast is well known for its beauty and the 200 million-year-old shoreline has been designated as a Natural World Heritage Site by UNESCO. In a great coup for Dorset in this year's Travellers' Choice Beaches Awards, the county scoops awards for three of its beaches. Hengistbury Head in Bournemouth is crowned fifth best beach in the UK and 20th in Europe.
A mix of sand and shingle, Hengistbury Head beach is offset by the 30-metre high crumbling cliff-face of Hengistbury Head. A historic headland with scenic views of Christchurch Harbour, Isle of Wight and Bournemouth, Hengistbury Head is a designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest, supporting a variety of wildlife and rare plants. It is also an important archaeological site with evidence of Bronze, Iron Age and Roman occupation.
Bournemouth Tourism said, "It's great that Hengistbury Head has been recognised in these awards as an area of natural beauty and of scenic and historic importance. Bournemouth also offers seven miles of golden award winning beach with fantastic facilities and close by amenities."
Weymouth Beach in Weymouth comes seventh place and Sandbanks in Poole take eighth position.
