Local Heroes Chosen to Stand Proud in Weymouth
2:24pm 22nd February 2013
3 local heroes have been chosen by Weymouth and Portland residents to be immortalised in steel.
A life-size fisherman, coastguard and a lifeboat coxswain will both stand next to a new Portrait Bench in the town.
It's to celebrate key figures in our community and the new walking and cycling routes around the area.
It is all part of a larger scheme across the UK run by the charity Sustrans, who work on making it easier for people to travel on foot, cycle or use public transport, and funded by the Big Lottery Fund.
Each Portrait Bench is unique to its local area, and when complete there will be a national collection of over 230 portraits situated around the UK.
Everybody is invited to the installation today (February 22nd) at 11am, on the Rodwell trail by the Abbotsbury Road entrance, Weymouth.
