Drugs Conference In Dorset
10:05am 1st March 2013
Dorset's Drug and Alcohol Action team are hosting a conference today to showcase their work in helping people with addiction problems.
Health experts from across the south will be at Kingston Maurward College, to learn more about effective efforts to tackle substance abuse in the county.
Dorset's treatment service is one of the best performing in the country.
Dr Stuart Burley, DAAT joint commissioning officer, said:
“There are any number of reasons that can lead to someone getting in trouble with drug abuse or alcoholism. We commonly see substance misuse addiction resulting from psychological trauma, family breakdown, losing a job or becoming homeless - often with these things happening at the same time.
We have integrated treatment services in Dorset that tackle not just the medical symptoms of addiction but also all elements important in a person’s recovery, be it therapy, help with accommodation and, family work, or education, training and employment.
“The conference today is a celebration and recognition of this ambitious and integrated response to substance misuse in Dorset - an approach which has proven to be one of the most successful in the country.”
