12:41pm 1st March 2013
Dorset Fire and Rescue Services Princes Trust programme Team 100 have been busy over the last week on their community project.
David Lagadu a student on Team 100, based at Weymouth Community Fire Station said: “We’ve now been working on the project for two weeks, up at Fancys Farm on Portland. We split the group into two, one group have worked on building a petting farm and one group worked inside painting the hall and the childrens play area to make it brighter and nicer for the children.
He added: “To raise money we did a sponsored car wash, a sponsored abseil, a bag pack at Asda and Synergy Housing donated £150. In total we raised a whopping £500. We are really pleased with the project so far because we feel we are making a real difference to the farm.”
Marie Clare Nicholson, Princes Trust Manager for DFRS said: “I am astonished with the level of dedication and hardwork shown to this project by these students. They have worked in freezing cold temperatures but continued to smile throughout. They have encouraged each other to continue the hard work when it’s been difficult – a real team effort! A big thank you to Fancys Farm, Synergy Housing for their generous donation, Asda and all the members of the public who had their car washed and supported us.”
