Villagers Celebrate As Bus Service Is Saved
8:40am 8th March 2013
Villagers in Sutton Poyntz who grouped together have won the battle to save a valued bus service.
We told you yesterday (7th March) that bus company First would keep the '4B' service linking Preston, Weymouth and Sutton Poyntz running for a further four months.
They had said they'd wanted to scrap it because parking and a tight reversing manoeuvre was making it too challenging to operate.
Wessex FM attended a celebratory meeting at a bus stop yesterday, where villagers discussed their next steps.
Preston and Sutton Poyntz Councillor, Ian Bruce, told Wessex FM that they would now "put a bit of pressure on the County Council, and the councillors, and local people to get the traffic issues sorted out". Councillor Bruce hopes that even in the winter period they keep the buses going.
He continued to say, he wants all this attention on the village to "encourage people to think 'Well, I'm in the middle of Weymouth where would I like to go this Sunday for my lunch?' Well, why not to Sutton Poyntz? There's some lovely pubs out here. And again they can have a drink, they can have their lunch, and then a nice bus driver's going to take them home".
