Dorset Leading The Way In Apprenticeships

Dorset is leading the way in the South West when it comes to apprenticeships.

Figures out today show nearly 500 new apprentices were created during 2011-12, bringing the total to nearly 6,000.

That puts Dorset ahead of areas like Gloucestershire and Wiltshire.

It's hoped UK apprentices will contribute nearly £3.4bn to the economy each year by 2022.

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said: "A record number of businesses are taking on apprentices in the South West - with an extra 6,620 new apprenticeships starting in the last year. The national number of people has topped half a million."

Vicky Hill has been an apprentice at Wessex FM for the last 18 months.

Here she talks to Luke de Costa about her role at the station.
