Random Checks Carried Out on West Dorset Building Sites
7:44am 13th March 2013
If you work on a building site in West Dorset, you better watch out because the Health and Safety watchdog is checking up on site managers.
It's after a high number of deaths and injuries were reported last year.
Nationally 49 people were killed on building sites last year and nearly 3 thousand were seriously injured.
Here in Dorset only 32 came to harm but health officials say that number is still too high.
They're going to be making unannounced visits to ensure duty workers are managing high risk activity, for example working on roofs and making sure people are using the correct kit.
The Health and Safety Executive say the crackdown is to remind people in the industry that poor standards are unacceptable.
