Dorset Councillors to Look at Missing Children Report

Youth

9:23am 18th March 2013

Ways to improve procedure and practice when children go missing from care in Dorset is due to be discussed.

An annual report drawn up for the County Council shows 79 children absconded from care homes last year, that's less than in 2011.

Most incidents of children and young people going missing from care are reported to the Police. The Police response varies according to an assessment of risk as agreed with social workers and carers

Dorset County Council says they have a specific parenting responsibility to youngsters in care and to those who go missing.

A Children's Services Overview Committee will comment on developing procedure when dealing with missing cases at a meeting tomorrow (Tuesday 18th March).
