Dorchester Businesses Pay For Life Saving Equipment

8:17am 22nd March 2013

Business leaders in Dorchester are turning potential life savers.

They've paid for three defibrillators and trained 12 people to use them so first aid can be given to shoppers in an emergency.

They give patients suffering a cardiac arrest an electric shock to the chest.

Why should you have a defibrillator?

Immediate defibrillation can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved.

  • Around 30,000 people have a cardiac arrest each year outside the confines of a hospital
  • The chance of survival after the heart stops falls by around 10% for every minute that passes without defibrillation
  • It can take the emergency services several minutes (and sometimes longer) to arrive.

The machines are at the Post Office, Goulds, and the Royal Oak.
