What's that Spotted in the Sea off Chesil?

3:27pm 2nd April 2013
(Updated 3:29pm 2nd April 2013)

A massive oil rig platform has been spotted off the Dorset coast.

Wessex FM listener Scott Emery captured the structure being towed through the sea just off Chesil, at Abbotsbury this lunchtime (Tuesday 2nd April).

After a bit of investigating and a chat with the Maritime Coastguard Agency we've found out its part of a rig platform that's being towed by a tug boat called Normand Titan.

The Titan is a Norwegian Anchor Handling type vessel and weighs over 3 thousand tonnes!

The Bridport Harbour Master Office has told us the oil rigging platform has been towed over for some routine testing that usually takes place off Portland.

Our "Rig Spotter" Scott caught the Titan in transit.
