Emergency Exercise At Portland Port

Portland Port

7:42am 10th April 2013

Agencies will be put to the test today to see how they'd response to an incident involving a nuclear powered submarine at Portland Port.

A special drill is being carried out and Islanders are being warned not to be alarmed by extra emergency service vehicles in the area.

Portland Port is one of a number in the UK authorised to accommodate nuclear powered vessels for the Royal Navy.

Although the vessels visit very rarely and an incident is highly unlikely, agencies including the Ministry of Defence, Portland Port, emergency and health services and the local authorities regularly test their readiness.
