NEW UPDATE: Arrest Made After Incident In Weymouth

8:06am 13th April 2013
(Updated 12:03pm 13th April 2013)

Police officers will be carrying out high visibility patrols in Weymouth today.

It’s to reassure residents after an incident in Portwey Close yesterday afternoon.

Police were called to an address there at 4.45pm and found suspicious items inside the property.

A 32-year-old man from Weymouth has been arrested at the address for possession of substances under the Misuse of Explosives Act and is currently helping police with their enquiries.

Police say the incident is NOT terrorist related.

Roads were closed in the area for a time – but reopened in the early hours of this morning.

Detective Inspector Mark Samuel of Weymouth CID told Wessex FM " We would like to thank the public for their patience while road closures were in place.  I would also like to reassure residents that the area is safe and they are not at risk."
