Cliff Fall Search Proves To Be False Alarm

8:49am 15th April 2013

A major rescue operation was launched on Portland yesterday after a man led his friends to believe he'd fallen over a cliff.

The coastguard helicopter was scrambled, along with the Police helicopter, which was carrying thermal imaging equipment to find the 23-year-old.

His friends thought he may have fallen from a high cliff at New Ground.

Further investigations by Dorset Police then established he'd left the area and gone home without telling them.
