1:09pm 26th April 2013

Dorset farmers and rural businesses are invited to a FREE crime prevention event at Kingston Maurward today. (Friday 26th April)

On show will be methods of how you can prevent yourself becoming a victim of crime.

A range of experts will also be on hand to offer advice.

Demonstrations will take place throughout the day from a range of services including Dorset Police, Dorset Fire and Rescue, Dorset County Council, Crimestoppers, the NFU and many others.

Weymouth and Portland Neighbourhood Inspector, Les Fry, will be attending the event. He told Wessex FM: "The impact of crime on rural businesses can be very significant, both in financial damage and the operational side of the business being harmed. For example, when they can't do a harvest, equipment is stolen or broken.

"What we are trying to say to them is they need to realise what crime can do to them and try to take the necessary steps to make their business better and more robust, in order to prevent criminals targeting them and taking their property."
