Phone Scammers Targeting Dorset

7:37am 30th April 2013
(Updated 1:47pm 30th April 2013)

Residents in Dorset are being warned never to give out their bank details over the phone.

Dorset Police has released details of what's the latest in a long line of scams trying to get you to hand over your card details to criminals.

How does it work? The force has received reports of people receiving an unscheduled call from someone claiming to be from a high-street bank.

That person will then ask you to call the number on the back of your bank card, BUT the scammer doesn't hang-up the phone and you end up talking to the same person again who'll then ask for your card details.

Anyone who receives such a call is urged to hang-up the phone and report the issue to the Police on 101.

Dorset Police says "Never become involved in conversations regarding your accounts in this way. Your bank will write to you, or advise you to go into branch if there have been any problems with your account. Your bvank will never ask for your card details over the phone".
