Christian Aid Week Event In Dorchester
9:44am 15th May 2013
A church committee is doing their bit to help eradicate world hunger in Dorchester today (Wednesday 15th May).
The group, who're supporting charity Christian Aid, is hosting a fundraising market in the United Church Hall to raise money that'll help build infrastructure in the poorest places so people can make their own food.
Researchers estimate 1 in 8 people go hungry everyday around the world.
Tony Boyden from the Dorchester church committee told us the figures are shocking; "It's shocking, but you can make a difference. It's interesting when we do door to door collections in Dorset, we do get a lot of goodwill. Some people say we're not Christian but that's fine, the issue is about hunger and poverty".
The market at United Church runs from9:45am - 1:45pm and will be opened by the Dorchester Mayor and Councillor Andy Canning.
