Children's Centres Offer Advice To Parents
7:31am 17th May 2013
If you're a Mum or Dad and could do with a helping hand, there's plenty of advice available in Dorset today (Friday 17th May).
Researchers say being a new parent can be one of the most stressfull periods in a persons life but the counties Surestart Children's Centres are here to help.
Children's centres provide a local resource for children and families with young children whether they need information, advice, guidance or more intensive personalised support in meeting their child's needs.
There are 22 centres in Dorset, ranging from Lyme Regis to Christchurch.
Richard Painter, Dorset County Council's children's centres development manager, said:
"Children's centres act as a hub in our communities. They provide services, in partnership with health services, midwifery and others such as adult learning, the Citizen's Advice Bureau and Job centre Plus. Alongside the activities and advice we offer on site, specialist groups use our facilities to meet. These include the library service, healthy eating workshops and Gingerbread, a group for single parents."
Each centre is running its own set of activities for the open day so find out about where your local children's centre is and what's on offer HERE.
