Public Feedback on Voting Process in the Borough
10:07am 20th May 2013
It's the final week to have your say about changing the way councillors in Weymouth and Portland are elected.
We're being given the chance to have all councillors elected at the same time every four years rather than electing a third of councillors each year in three out of the four year cycle, as is the case now.
Councillors have already agreed to the switch in principle, must consult the public before any change is implemented.
The council believe by changing, they would save £ 90,000 over four years.
Other reasons they put up for changing include greater fairness for voters, as some currently have more opportunities to vote than others, and a more stable political environment helping the council to adopt a more strategic, long-term approach to policy and decision making.
