'Love Your Local Market' In Bridport Today
8:32am 25th May 2013
'We're the gateway to Broadchurch'.
That's the rallying cry from Bridport Mayor Maggie Ray as the town celebrates the 'Love Your Local Market' initiative in style.
Flags and banners are flying along East, West and South Street in the town from independent shops and market stalls, promoting the idea publicised by retail guru Mary Portas.
Councillor Ray says Bridport attracts visitors from across the county and beyond because of its wide range of independent shops and stalls.
But she's also using the success of Broadchurch, filmed largely in West Bay, to encourage visitors to stop off in town before or after viewing the locations now made famous by Bridport writer, Chris Chibnall.
While Bridport regularly hosts markets on both Wednesday and Saturdays, today's especially busy as it also coincides with the quarterly 'Vinyl Saturday Music event in the town.
