Dorset Carers Feel Isolated
7:33am 13th June 2013
A national survey has found 1 in 10 carers in Dorset feel socially isolated.
Nearly 500 carers from across the county took part in the scrutiny report.
1 in 10 may not seem like much, but with more people taking on unpaid carer roles for a friend or family member, it's a worry for the local authority.
The majority of respondents were females who were giving up at least 100 hours per week in unpaid care.
Many said they were struggling financially and found it hard to enjoy their own free time.
Dorset County Council says they'll use the feedback to improve their services.
Overall satisfaction rates among local carers is high in Dorset. 76% of Dorset's carers were 'satisfied' with the support and services they receive from the county council and a total of 44% said they were 'extremely satisfied.
