Dorset County Museum Gets £100,000 Donation
9:00am 14th June 2013
£100,000 pounds has been donated by a local man to help preserve our Dorset County Museum.
The legacy, which came from William Butcher, has been used to completely rebuild the Museum's photographic archive.
William Butcher, a former farm hand at Shipton Gorge Farm, passed away in 2011. During the Second World War, William ran the farm and patrolled Chesil Beach as part of his Home Guard duties. He and his wife Sylvia had a life-long interest in archaeology stemming from the discovery of prehistoric artefacts on the farm he worked. They were both avid collectors and had collections of boxes, tins, and old cider bottles.
Today (14th June) will see the new facility open its doors for the first time.
