Garden Party For Blind Volunteers
8:39am 18th June 2013
The work of 400 volunteers who are the 'life blood' of Dorset Blind Association is being celebrated today. (18 June)
Together they give more than 25,000 hours of their time to help 1,000 blind or partially sighted people each year.
Today they are having a garden party at Lulworth Castle with Gemini Jazz providing the soundtrack. There will also be speeches at noon.
Jonathan Holyhead, Chief Executive Officer of the charity, said: "Dorset Blind Association is a charity run by professionals, but powered by volunteers.
"I consider them to be the life blood of the charity and many have been with us for a very long time - I know of at least one who is still very active after 32 years of service and there are plenty who have given 10, 15, 20 or more years."
