One Step Too Far

4:55pm 29th July 2013
(Updated 4:56pm 29th July 2013)

July 23rd was the date The Griffins Head of Sherborne may have killed the dreams of One Step Beyond.

An important game for both teams as neither had got any points in qualification for the Blackthorn British Skittles Championships and this head to head was going to separate the Contenders to the Pretenders.

One Step Beyond went 4 up on the first hand and felt this game was theirs for the taking but how wrong was they?

The Griffs had a trump card in their ranks. They had the single handed shot taker Barbara who threw a 17 stick up in hand two and then followed with a 13, this left One Step Beyond reeling and not able to recover only to show some promise in the last hand hitting 67 including a 16 pin stick up from Will Mitchell. This then left the away side the task of hitting 56 to win and they hit 57 so at the end only a slender win but one that seriously hurt team OSB.

So what now for One Step Beyond? Qualification looks like it has fallen into a bottomless pit of no return. A gallant effort in their 3 games but ones they have not taken anything away from with it. Greg Black has gone on to say “So it might not be best to book our Hotel for Torquay but there is always next year” He followed on by saying “Our last game is away to Griffins Head and all we can do now is go up there and win for pride if nothing else” So who knows what will happen? There maybe a slim chance of proceeding but I feel this team is realistic and will be a force next year.
