A COMMANDING performance by Bridport Evolution saw them claim their first win of the season against bottom of the league Devon Peelers.
After a difficult start to their league campaign the Bridport team travelled to Exeter to face a depleted Peelers team who were also yet to win a game.
The Bridport team travelled to Exeter with a full squad of 12, with club captain Craig Sorrell taking on coaching duties for the night.
The Peelers however were only able to field the minimum five players and their lack of a subs bench cost them dearly as they tried to match the tempo of the visiting Bridport side.
After going six points up in the opening three minutes Bridport never lost the lead with centre Michael Cox claiming the MVP honours thanks to his 20 points and 17 rebounds, only missing three shots all night.
Good link up play on the fast break between Craig Sorrell, Dan Park and Jeff Robertshaw added to the misery for the Peelers as they kept the pace high all night long.
After putting the game out of reach Bridport took the opportunity to give their fringe players some court time including giving a debut league outing to 14-year-old Eric Robertshaw, who managed to chalk up a quick steal and assist in his five minutes on court.
Rookies Dan Collins and Jack Trivett also added to their scoring totals for the season while Gavin King and Ross Hughes pushed their scoring averages up with six points each.
Bridport travel to Crewkerne for their next match to play a new look Crewkerne Thunder squad bolstered by the disbanded Yeovil Jets side.
Bridport’s first home game of the season will be at Beaminster School this Sunday, October 27th against last season’s league champions Exeter University.
Tip off is at 10:45am and spectators are welcome to attend.
