Confidence Booster Race For Top Dorset Jumper

Horse Racing

12:03am 29th December 2013

One of Dorset's highest ranking steeplechasers is getting an outing over hurdles today.

Opening Batsman, trained near Beaminster by Harry Fry, hasn't completed a course since he won the Racing Plus Chase at Kempton last February.

The last time he ran over fences he fell in the Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury, so is going back over the smaller obstacles in the Quicksilverslots Play £500 Rainbow Riches Handicap Hurdle at Doncaster (1.15pm)

Fry says the race will be a confidence booster for the horse as they go back to the drawing board to find out why his jumping's deserted him.
