Hopes for TV Coverage of Weymouth Ironman Event
8:07am 23rd April 2014
There are high hopes that a huge sporting event that's coming to Weymouth this year could be televised, like the Olympics.
The Challenge UK Ironman Triathlon will be raced around the town for the first time in September (14th).
The countries top athletes and some European competitors will take-on the swim, bike, run endurance event.
Weymouth and Portland Borough Councillor Ian Bruce is hopeful TV crews might come down and broadcast the event;
"I would be very surprised if we didn't see some TV. There is just so much which is televisual that would fill that space. Like they did during the Olympics, that was televised, everyone went "wow" what a wonderful place Weymouth and Portland is."
Councillor Bruce says if the Challenge Ironman Triathlon was to be televised it would be great for the local economy.
"The places putting up the media crews did the best out of the Olympics, so from that point of view it's excellent, but it really does tell people what Weymouth will look like when they come down in person, there's just so much for people to do.
Challenge UK has told us there's no update on the event being televised yet.
The latest international Challenge event was televised by the cable TV channel Eurosport.
