Basketball - Mission Fitness Bandits Dodge The Bullets
9:04am 10th October 2014
After a high flying start to the season in the 1st game, Weymouth wanted to continue the strong tempo against the suspected weaker side Broadclyst.
As the 1st quarter got under way, both teams were matching point for point with Mike Willemse opening the game for the Mission Fitness Bandits scoring the first 6 points but the Bullets kept themselves close to the home side with some tactical offensive plays and finishing the quarter 10 - 10.
In the 2nd quarter Weymouth struggled to do anything right, no shots would fall and top scorer from the previous game, Craig Sorrell got into serious foul trouble and was forced to the bench. The Mission Fitness Bandits just couldn't find the momentum they needed to continue being dominant and the half finished 19 - 23 to Broadclyst.
After some serious half time talk from Coach Fuhrmann, Weymouth entered the 2nd half with more determination and structure, making it difficult for the Bullets to break through the strong defence. Court captain Liam Wyatt hit a huge 3 pointer and Vitoldas Balciunas scored back to back buckets to get the Mission Fitness Bandits back on track ending the 3rd quarter up 34 - 30.
The 4th quarter proved to be Weymouth's strongest, breaking through Broadclyst's defence with ease and preventing the tired away team from getting inside the paint for easy baskets, forcing them to take difficult outside shots under pressure. The Mission Fitness Bandits outscored the Bullets 24 - 0 in the final quarter sharing the points between all the team and ending the game with a respectable 58 - 30 win.
The Mission Fitness Bandits face last year’s league winners Exeter University 1st's, away on Monday 13th hoping to continue the win streak and pose a threat to the rest of the league.
