Weymouth Mission Fitness Bandits 85 – 53 Weymouth Coleman Insurance Cowboys
From the outset this fixture presented an opportunity for the Weymouth Coleman Insurance Cowboys up and coming talent to challenge the experience of the clubs finest.
Mission Fitness Bandits and Coleman Insurance Cowboys are both competing in the same Exeter and District Men’s Division One. This game was the first of two derby encounters to be had this season.
As the game started any anticipation of a mere formality by the Mission Fitness Bandits was quickly confronted by back to back threes from Dan Campbell to answer the 1st teams early scores. As the quarter progressed, rotation allowed the Mission Fitness Bandits to open up a small lead, which spearheaded by a number of athletic scores by Jake Kinder.
Mission Fitness Bandits scores from Craig Sorrell, Jim DeBertrand, Joel Franks and Carl Carter, all stamped their own mark on the game. The closely contested quarter saw seven Mission Fitness Bandits make contributions to their lead
During the third quarter the Coleman Insurance Cowboys struggled to control their defensive rebounding which allowed Franks and Ian Manley to capitalise. After that, the Coleman Insurance Cowboys valiant efforts stalled as the Mission Fitness Bandits ran riot limiting their scoring to just 7.
The final quarter witnessed a more balanced affair with both teams exchanging scores in the early stage but it was a case of too little too late for Coleman Insurance Cowboys. Even a last gasp, long range bomb from Steveo Reece in the closing seconds, which brought momentary jubilation, was not enough to breach the 32 point gap inflicted by the clubs first team.
