The Great Dorset Steam Fair is widely recognised as the World's leading steam and vintage vehicle preservation event and is attended every year by over 200,000 people from the U.K and from all over the World! Wessex FM's Steve Bulley went along to the showground to find out more. You can see his pictures here. And here are some interesting facts about the Steam Fair you may not know. With 1,000 traders, 2,000 exhibitors and their families, together with our campers on the public campsites (5,000 caravans and tents) it is estimated that the population living on site amounts to 25,000 people at any one time. Total number of people expected to see the show is in excess of 200,000. To cope with the large crowds the show brings in around 600 portable toilets and has to dispose of around 76,000 gallons of effluent! An army of workers distribute and collect the hundreds of litterbins on site and 180 tonnes of rubbish is taken away each year.
