Wessex FM supports Great Parks Charity Walk

Following the success of the Charity Walk in 2009, the local British Heart Foundation group, with support from the Borough Council and “Friends Groups”, is organising the 3rd sponsored Charity Walk in aid of the British Heart Foundation.  This year’s event will consist of two walks, an 8 miler and a 2 miler, taking in a route around the beautiful parks and gardens of Weymouth, plus  “MY FIRST CHARITY WALK” for toddlers / pre school age children.

Local British Heart Foundation spokesperson Mary Watson said,

“The Charity Parks Event is a wonderful opportunity to encourage people to enjoy a fun walk with family and friends around the gardens of Weymouth.  It also gives their hearts a good work out whilst raising vital awareness and funds to help beat heart disease.”

Tara Gooding Borough Parks Representative said,

“The Borough is blessed with many fabulous parks and recreational open spaces and this event is a splendid way to raise awareness and highlight some of the developments and improvements being carried out.  The enthusiasm shown by the Friends Groups and the British Heart Foundation is admirable and ensures the Charity Walk, along with many other events that now take place in our parks and gardens, have a great future.”

This year’s Great Parks Charity Walk will take place on Sunday 18th April with Radipole Gardens being the start and final location for all three walks (8, 2 mile or toddlers).  The 8 mile walk will include Greenhill, Nothe, Rodwell Trail, and Sandsfoot Gardens, with check points, refreshments and support being provided by the Friends Group at each venue.

The Future Of Osprey Quay

Some work has started of the re-development of Osprey Quay on Portland. The quay was bought by The South West Redevelopment Agency in 2000 and they are investing £38 Million in the area. It looks like an exciting plan to re-develop the area and hopefully Osprey Quay will be completed in time for the 2012 Olympics, the area will be a focal point for the sailing section of the games. You can see more thanks to Weymouth & Portland Borough Council on the Sailing Academy Webcam (you need Quicktime Active X) Check back here soon and we will let you know how the work is progressing. Below are some impressions of how Osprey Quay might look when the work is completed.
