Facing fears at the Weymouth Sealife Adventure Park

26th October 2015

All this half term holiday, you can 'Face Your Fears' at Weymouth Sealife Adventure Park!

Nick from Bugfest is there with his collection of snakes, spiders, scorpions, and assorted creepy crawlies!

I went along to see if I could face my fears and handle some of the creatures...

Meeting the next generation of Wessex FM presenters and journalists!

19th October 2015

radio club

A big hello to all the members of Radio Club at St Nicholas and St Laurence School in Weymouth!

They meet after school on a Friday and prepare and present their own internet streamed radio show!

I popped along to see them, talk about radio, and answer their questions.

I would have LOVED a Radio Club when I was at school - Chess Club was about as exciting as it got!

Why Weymouth viewers may be switching off QI...

15th October 2015

Weymouth Clock Seafront

It's been revealed that Stephen Fry is stepping down as host of popular panel show QI.  He's been at the helm since it launched in 2003 and fronted 180 episodes.

So why might viewers in Weymouth be switching off?  The new host is Sandi Toksvig, and she's been banned from the town following some comments made in an article.  Here she is on BBC Radio Four's News Quiz, explaining all:

A Limerick for National Poetry Day

8th October 2015

Now, I used to love English lessons at school.  Apart from one thing - poetry!  I could never get to grips with it.

With today being National Poetry Day, I thought I would join in!  But a limerick is about my level (and I nicked this one of the internet too), so here goes:

There was a boy by the ocean
Who thought he found magic potion
He took a big drink
Then started to think
It tasted just like suntan lotion

Wessex FM listener Tracy was not impressed - and she came up with an immediate rhyming reply of her own:

Dorset Rock Choir get baking for charity!

7th October 2015

stacey rock choir

Today's the day of the Great British Bake Off Final!  I think Ian might win (hope so).  Or it could be Nadiya.  Tamal is a strong contender.  Let's face it, I haven't got a clue, but this series has been as entertaining as always, especially with the incomparable Mel & Sue at the helm.

Stacey Hobday from Rock Choir popped in this morning - she's got her groups baking as well as singing this week, to raise money for charity.

Listen here to find out more about Rock Choir and what they're up to for the MS Society:

Lions Beach Motocross

2nd October 2015

beach motocross

It's always a pleasure for Wessex FM to be involved with the Weymouth & Portland Lions Beach Motocross!

It's back over the weekend of the 10th and 11th of October, with lots of stunts, demos and displays on Saturday, and a full race programme on Sunday.

Richard Burgess from Weymouth & Portland Lions popped into the Breakfast Show to have a chat with me about what's going on through the weekend:
