James and Maria's Knobbly Knees Race!

28th April 2017

It's the Dorset Knob Throwing and Food Festival this Sunday, so Maria and I decided to get into the spirit of this with a Knobbly Knees race of our own in the Wessex FM car park!

We each had to put a Dorset Knob between our knees and make it to the finish line.

Here's what happened...

Your feedback on the show via Soundcheck

25th April 2017

radio 768

We love getting your feedback on Wessex FM on Soundcheck.

Not only do we ask you to rate a bunch of songs on each survey, but also ask a couple of extra questions too.  This time, it was what do you want to hear more or less of on the Breakfast Show.

And here's a selection of your comments...

Simon said he'd like more chat between James and Maria, and Denise also said more banter from James and Maria as they work very well together and often make me laugh.

Maria said less bad jokes - I can't believe you think my jokes aren't funny!

Claire says more summer tunes now the sun is shining.  Gerry wants to hear more country and western and more sixties music.  And Andrew says more Simple Minds (a fellow fan, obviously!).

William suggests changing the birthday game back to guessing how old the celebrities are.

Sarah wants more clues on the Wessex Word, and Lucy says the show needs to be more funky and sleek.

Thanks for all your feedback - we really do appreciate it all, and while you can never please all the people all the time, we do take your comments on board.

Is your other half a snorer?

It's National Stop Snoring Week, so I spoke to sleep expert Dr Neil Stanley on the show this morning to find out why we snore and, more importantly, how to stop it!

Take a listen here:

Carpool Karaoke with Mel and Kim!

20th April 2017

It was brilliant fun heading out in the car with Mel & Kim from Weymouth for one of their Carpool Karaokes!

They were on the show before Christmas, when they told me they had the crazy idea of singing requests in returns for donations for Clic Sargent, as part of their London Marathon fundraising.

With the Marathon this Sunday, they invited me out for a chat and a sing song!

London Marathon training - but thinking about cycling!

15th April 2017

Weymouth Bay 2

On Saturday I found myself running (again) along Weymouth seafront. Fortunately it was just a short run, 6.5 miles as I am now tapering prior to the London Marathon on 23rd April.

The sun was rising, the sea was calm and the skies were a picture perfect blue. I found myself thinking just how lucky we are to live in such an idyllic county. We are spoilt for choice with postcard scenery right on our doorstep and most of us take it for granted. I certainly have done in the past. But since running I have realised how beautiful our county looks early in the morning, during the day and when the sun sets at night.

Weymouth Bay 1

Although the London Marathon is challenge number three, it got me very excited for my eighth challenge which will take place from 22nd-24th September. And what’s even better as you can take part as well.

Weldmar’s Cycling Challenge will see us cycle 170 miles over three days across Dorset capturing the best of Dorset. And we have now confirmed the route.

Dorchester, Bridport, Lyme Regis, Beaminster, Sherborne, Gillingham, Shaftesbury, Blandford, Poole, Swanage, Wareham, Wool, Weymouth and Portland will all feature in our first ever shop-to-shop cycling event and you can join me!

Registrations will open very shortly for this very exciting challenge which is a great opportunity to take in our beautiful county by bicycle. You will be joined by me and a team of other supporters as well as support vehicles and plenty of encouragement.

So be sure to check back here on my Wessex FM blog soon for more details about challenge number 8 and how you can get involved.

Let’s just tackle the marathon first…

We taste test the 'Cheaster Egg'!

5th April 2017

cheaster egg 768

When I heard that Ford Farm in Litton Cheney were producing a Cheaster Egg, I had to arrange a taste test on the Breakfast Show!

It's made of Wensleydale cheese, with white chocolate curls and raspberries.

Fancy it?

VIDEO: Spinnaker Tower Abseil

3rd April 2017

So I have now completed challenge number two as part of Matt's Colossal 10 and I am pleased to say that my feet are now safely back on the ground.

The views were incredible, 100 metres above Portsmouth but equally, the crowds below looked tiny and the slight breeze seemed stronger than it was.

Congratulations as well to Bill and Steph for also completing the Abseil for Weldmar.
