Humboldt Penguin Chick at Sea Life

A new Humboldt Penguin chick at Weymouth SEA LIFE Adventure Park was welcomed on 23rd March to first time parents Laurel and Cedar, weighing just 96g.

Due to issues with feeding and caring, the Animal Care Team were swift to intervene, and have since begun the process to reintroduce the chick to its parents.

The new addition has been introduced to the colony of 14 Humboldt Penguins this week through a special pen for protection and reintroduction.

Humboldt Penguins are classed as vulnerable on The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. With only about 12,000 Humboldt Penguins left in the wild, it’s hoped that the breeding colony at the Park will continue to be as successful as it currently is.
