Kitchen Apprentice

Supporting the kitchen team in their day to day roles. Learning the variety of skill sets, section by section, all supported with on-the-job training across the board.

Combining off-the-job training with on-the-job learning, the Apprentice Chef works alongside qualified chefs assisting in all aspects of food preparation and production. It is a training position, and is bound by the terms of reference contained within the Training Contract. This position provides the opportunity to learn and build experience and as such, requires commitment to completion of all learning and development activities within the Training Plan. The Apprentice Chef is closely supervised and supported by qualified chefs.

You will be subject to self-directed learning and development as well as undertaking required training:

  • Deliver excellent customer service
  • Cover the use of equipment
  • Correct techniques for preparing food
  • Required to be flexible, because the shift patterns may be unusual
  • The ability to work well within a team
  • Participate in performance review according to company policies
  • Adhere to all Company values, principles and procedures including Occupational Health and Safety requirements
  • Understand and demonstrate support for the Company's commitment to a harassment free workplace
  • Maintain a professional appearance in the workplace

Training to be provided


Day release at Weymouth College 

  • NVQ Level 2 in Food Production
  • Functional Skills Mathematics Level 1
  • Functional Skills English Level 1
  • Handle food according to safe food practises
  • Maintain safe and sanitary work area
  • Prepare food to consistently to enterprise standard within required time frames
  • Minimise waste
  • Clean maintain and store equipment to enterprise standards
  • Replenish stock
  • General food production
  • Report any broken equipment or unsafe work areas
  • Knife work
  • Time management in a busy environment
