“Another exciting opportunity for the community to come together to create a visual display in the town centre. Following on from the fantastic success of the Dove project, St Marys church along with other community groups and the council, are inviting the community to take part in “CROSSROADS”. The project involves making crosses, either remembering the death and resurrection of Jesus or reaching a turning point in your life, choosing what path to follow. The idea is simple but will be very visual.

Cllr Gill Taylor said – “This is another wonderful idea to engage with the communities across Weymouth and Portland - The idea is that the crosses represent either a new journey, a cross roads in your live, and maybe now is a good time to make new choices starting along a more positive path – this project is very loosely linked to mental health but also to the religious festivals. I really look forward to see the display in the town centre.”

Theses crosses will then be attached to a giant cross, and a signpost which will be displayed outside of St Marys church in St Marys Street over the Easter period.

So far 2 primary schools in the area have joined in, St Nicholas and St Lawrence and St Johns school, but there is plenty of time for other schools to engage. Pupils are being asked to help make some crosses and also to write a one side A4 piece of work about what the cross means to them. The work will then be displayed in St Marys church over the Easter period.

Members of the Community can get on board by popping down to Weymouth Library every Wednesday morning from Wednesday 13th February from 10am – 12 noon. All materials will be supplied. For more information Please contact Julie Hursthouse 01305 838497 or email
